For those new to the Gladstone region we have provided a brief overview:

Gladstone is located some 550 kilometres (km) by road north of Brisbane and 100 km southeast of Rockhampton.  The city is situated between the Calliope River to the north and the Boyne River approximately 14 kms to the south.  Between the two river mouths lies the deep-water harbour for which the city owes its existence.  The harbour is protected by a low island to the east called Facing Island and to the north by Curtis Island.

Gladstone has a population of approximately 60,000 people. 

The region is well known for its tourist areas such as the coastal waters of Agnes Waters and Town of Seventeen Seventy, both popular for fishing and family vacations.  To the west are the rural townships of Calliope, Mount Larcom and the Boyne Valley.  To the south of the city, 20 minutes by car, are the popular communities of Boyne Island and Tannum Sands.

The City of Gladstone is experiencing rapid growth and is well serviced with a wide variety of State and Private schools, the Central Queensland Institute of TAFE and Central Queensland University along with a Public and Private hospital.  There is a diversity of retail, recreation, cultural, leisure and entertainment services and facilities.  An upgrade of the local airport is currently underway.

Gladstone offers many activities all year round.  With water sports, walking trails and recreational areas there is plenty on offer for the whole family. 

As one of Australia’s busiest ports, Gladstone supports the following industry:

• The world's largest alumina refinery
• Australia's largest aluminium smelter
• Queensland's biggest power station
• Australia's largest cement operation
• The State’s largest multi-cargo port
• A new alumina refinery

Curtis Island will be home to the new and expanding LNG industry that will provide more growth to this booming region.
